Album with 7 colour serigraphs by Marcel-Louis Baugniet

Marcel-Louis Baugniet is a very versatile Belgian avant-garde artist. Besides being a painter, he was also a designer of furniture, theatre costumes, posters, scenery, carpets, ... . However, Baugniet is mainly known as a constructivist painter. Geometric abstraction and a soft colour palette characterise his work. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels together with Magritte and Delvaux. Afterwards he went to Paris where he was influenced by cubism. There he also discovered abstract art and Russian constructivism. In 1922, he returned to Brussels. At the end of the 1920s, he devoted himself to the applied arts. In his furniture designs, form served function. He also used many new materials such as chromed metal, mutiplex and nylon. His furniture was a success and was exhibited at Expo 58, among others.

Baugniet was particularly active as an avant-garde artist in the 1920s, but did not get the recognition he deserved. It was only in the 1970s that he gained this recognition with the rediscovery of the forgotten avant-garde of the 1920s. He continued to paint until the end of his life.
